Alberta announces two important changes in its Alberta Opportunity Stream (AOS). The changes include removal of the minimum income requirement and an update to the minimum language requirement of the Alberta Opportunity Stream.

Removal of Minimum Income Requirements

This change will be applied to all the applications submitted on or after 14th June 2018. This is the day when Alberta Opportunity Stream started accepting applications.

Foreign nationals currently working in Alberta and the international graduates who have done their studies from an approved post-secondary institution of Alberta are eligible for AOS.

AINP – Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program said it will continue checking that whether the candidates are being paid the minimum wage of the province and whether the wage fulfills the minimum of their occupation as established either in their Labour Market Impact Assessment or on the Alis website of the province.

All the successful nominees already have the jobs, when they apply to the program. This helps them support themselves and their families, as per the update by AINP.

Change in Minimum Language Requirements

AINP has adjusted the change in the minimum language requirements for both the candidates working in a field related to Skill level (C or D) under the National Occupational Classification (NOC) of Canada and for those who are working in an occupation with NOC (O, A, or B).

As per AINP, the minimum language requirement for the candidates who are working under jobs with NOC C or D will remain at CLB (Canadian Language Benchmark) score of 4. This will not increase to CLB 5.

The minimum language requirements of the candidates who are working in occupations under NOC O, A, or B, will remain at CLB 4 till 1st January 2020. Then it will increase to CLB 5.

The above two changes announced by Alberta will make it easier for people to apply for the program and will ensure continuing to fill up the job shortages with quality candidates, as per the update by AINP.
